Why TeamHEALTH?
There are so many different types of health professionals that work in mental health that it can be confusing and difficult to know if you've chosen the right one. Each of the organisations you will take a look at have different skills to support your mental health. Let's try to see if we can help you make the right decision for you.
The first thing to know is what supports you need. Your GP, or whoever you spoke to about your concerns, should be able to help you with this. If not, they can point you in the right direction. It's important to know what you need help with so that you can see who provides those supports.
Here are some questions and answers that might help you understand how we can help you:
Do I need a referral?
TeamHEALTH accept referrals from all sources including self-referrals. Some of our supports require these from specific places such as Top End Mental Health Service (TEMHS). You can find this information on the Services page of this website.
How much will these supports cost?
TeamHEALTH is a free service for people who need help. We are classified as a Non Governmental Organisation which means that we receive funding from both the Australian and Northern Territory Governments. We also work with people who are funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and can talk more about this with you.
How often will I need appointments?
That is completely up to you. We will work with you to see what your expectations are and how we can meet them.
What if I don't want to meet TeamHEALTH in my home?
That is completely fine. We can arrange to meet with you at one of our locations around Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Gunabalanya or Maningrida. Or if you like at a coffee shop or local park. It's up to you.
We'd love to hear from you with any other questions you have.
Why do we meet your needs?
We have been accredited to the National Standards for Mental Health Services which means that we have passed our assessment by an independent organisation (Quality Innovation Performance) and that the culture of continuous improvement is active in TeamHEALTH.
TeamHEALTH’s person-centred, recovery-focused care demonstrates the critical importance of wraparound psychosocial (non-clinical) support and accommodation in addressing mental health. Indicators of our success include:
- none of the approximately 2700 active participants in TeamHEALTH programs have ended their lives in the past 4 years.
- none of the 13 participants in our medium-term (accommodation) service have re-entered the Royal Darwin Hospital mental health inpatient unit in the past 2 years.
We have helped thousands of people since we started and are looking forward to helping thousands more.
But don’t take our word for it – this is what some of our participants have to say:
